UNDERLAY
Give your new flooring the best start to life with Underlay from Imagine Floors by Airstep.
They say it’s what’s inside that counts and while that’s true, we think what’s underneath is just as important. Underlay is designed to prolong the life of your new flooring and installation is necessary for all floating floors.
Here at Imagine Floors by Airstep we offer a variety of dedicated Floating Flooring Underlay with each solution designed to target a specific issue you may be facing or requirement that you must meet.
For example, many buildings have minimum acoustic requirements that must be met for homes to be considered compliant. Acoustically rated underlayment is the ideal solution for this situation. By the same token, those who want a little extra thermal protection and insulation within their home can help achieve this goal by installing an Underlay designed to assist with this.
Each Imagine Floors by Airstep Underlay option also provides a collection of multi-purpose support features that make it easy to find the right solution for your home.
All floating flooring systems that do not have inbuilt underlay must have this flooring accessory installed alongside the flooring. As a general rule, this includes all Laminate and Engineered Timber floors. Luxury Vinyl Plank floorboards can also benefit from the installation of Underlay, however, a Vinyl friendly option must be selected.
All of our Hard Flooring Underlay solutions are designed to be installed with any type of Laminate or Engineered Timber floors, with options such as Acoustalay and Helix 700 also being Vinyl friendly.
As noted above, each Underlay is also designed to target a specific goal or issue. AcoustiStep, for example, focuses on noise reduction and sound absorption. AquaDefend, on the other hand, is the perfect solution for those who want stronger thermal protection or need a top notch moisture barrier and Timbermax is a great all-rounder.
We’re also excited to stock Helix 700 – a patented cross-linked Underlay that is made in Denmark and designed for use in situations where the installation of underlay would have traditionally been difficult such as in homes with Vinyl Floors.

Good acoustic properties are important both for the health of your family and regulatory obligations. Quieter environments are better for everyone, so our Hybrid floors come with a pre-adhered underlay that helps ensure their acoustic compliance.
Floors that feature a waterproof surface are a great choice for those worried about spills or other accidents in their home. Our Luxury Vinyl Plank floorboards and Hybrid floors feature an inherently waterproof surface thanks to their water-resistant construction, while our Laminate floors enjoy a waterproof surface thanks to their aluminium oxide wear layer.
In some cases – like with our Luxury Vinyl Plank floors and Hybrid flooring – a waterproof surface also means that floorboards are suitable for installation in wet areas such as bathrooms (excluding shower bases) and laundries. This allows for the creation of a seamless design throughout your entire home – a great perk for those who want consistency in their style.
Hard floors are assigned a Class Rating based on their suitability for different situations.
When you see Class Rating 23 assigned to a floor, this means that it is suitable for installation in even the highest traffic areas of your home.
Class Rating 23 is the highest residential rating achievable and is applicable to most Imagine Floors by Airstep flooring collections.
